The Capdepera lighthouse is one of the most emblematic on the island, as together with the Artrutx lighthouse in Menorca, it marks the channel that separates the two islands at its narrowest point. It stands on a cliff that offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. The lighthouse was built in 1861 and stands 18 metres high. Its white light with red flashes can be seen from 20 nautical miles away. The lighthouse can be visited all year round and is an ideal place to watch the sunrise or sunset.
If you like hiking, Capdepera offers a wide variety of routes for all levels and tastes. You will be able to walk through natural landscapes of great beauty, such as pine forests, virgin coves, ancient caves or mountains with panoramic views. Some of the most popular routes are the one from Cala Agulla to Talaia de Son Jaumell, the one from Cala Mesquida to Puig de s’Aguila or the one from Canyamel to Torre Nova des Cap Vermell.
Capdepera offers you traditional gastronomy that reflects the essence of the cultures that have forged the personality of Mallorcan cuisine. You will be able to taste dishes made with quality local products, such as olive oil, sobrasada, ensaimada or fresh fish. You can also try other more international options, such as Italian or French cuisine.
Capdepera Castle is a fortress with a walled enclosure located on a mound with an excellent view of the interior, the coastline and the Menorca channel. Its construction began in 1300, although in the 14th century it was rebuilt on the remains of a Muslim villa. The castle was a strategic place for the defence and population of the area, especially during the times when pirate attacks were most frequent. In the 18th century it was used as a military post until it was abandoned in 1854. In 1983 the Capdepera Town Council regained ownership of the castle and is currently in charge of its management and conservation. The castle was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and is a monument that can be visited all year round. At present, you can visit it every day between 10 am and 8.30 pm.
Visiting one of the beaches in the different parts of the municipality is another impressive alternative. Capdepera has beaches to suit all tastes. In its 30 kilometres of coastline you can choose between any beach with all the services, such as Son Moll, Cala Mesquida, Cala Agulla, Canyamel or Sa Font de sa Cala and isolated or virgin beaches of the natural park of the Península de Llevant and the Marine Reserve with a privileged natural environment and crystal clear waters. All of them offer the possibility of practising water activities such as snorkelling, kayaking or paddle surfing.
