The little resort of Canyamel with its family atmosphere and beautiful surroundings is another of the more well-known settlements belonging to Capdepera. One of its special features is the lovely beach with pale sand and clear water.This small, quiet tourist resort surrounded by fields and bathed in marvellous clear light is located close to the Canyamel stream, an area of wetlands with an information centre to explain the species found. It is also right next to the impressive cliffs of Cap Vermell (“the red cape”), where there is an important colony of cormorants. The place has been declared a wild bird protection area and is included in the European network of nature protection, Natura 2000.
What to see and what to do?
In addition to its wonderful beach, Canyamel provides a number of tourist facilities: bars, restaurants, shops and plenty of opportunities for sport and leisure activities.Close by are the famous Caves of Artá, which can be reached on foot in just a few minutes. There is a small jetty where boats leave on different excursions along the coast. Not far away is Canyamel Golf Course, which together with the tennis club and the wide range of suggested tours on foot or by bicycle make this area a favourite destination for sport lovers. There are two delightful little bays close by: Cala Rotja and Cala Auberdans, ideal locations to go for a walk or for scuba-diving or cave diving. The proximity to the Tower of Canyamel provides the opportunity of an attractive excursion on foot to visit this defensive tower dating back to the 13th century.
